Information Assurance Student Group Association
High School Division
Mission Statement

The mission of the Information Assurance Student Group Association is to engage high school students in the exploration of science and technology, especially focusing on the area of information assurance and cyber defense.

A three-pronged approach will be taken to support this mission statement: local club experimentation, service learning and cyber defense competition. At monthly or bi-monthly club meetings students will receive hands-on training and experimental time to gain knowledge of information technology and security concepts. They will be able to apply this knowledge in two real world settings. First, they will transfer their knowledge to their local communities through a yearly community service learning project of the club’s choice. Second, they will be able to participate in a statewide cyber defense competition which allows them to combine all the smaller experiments from the year-long learning into a larger, day-long competition.

All activities undertaken by the club are in an effort to understand computer systems, network, information security and hacking. Following the code of ethics for engineers, all hacking offenses and countermeasures are discussed in an effort to develop and understanding of the threats to work stations, servers, local area network and the Internet. These vulnerabilities are used only in a laboratory environment and are never released to or practiced in a production environment.
